Many of you will be aware of the discussion around taxing charities. Steven Moe has written some excellent comments on the current IRD consultation paper. The mood needs shifting from blame and defensiveness to great stories and how our mahi makes a real difference in Aotearoa every day.

It seems that resourcing Charities to actually use the existing tools and identify bad players could be tried first. Before throwing a blanket over the whole sector and waste a lot of everyone’s time.
March is the anniversary month of the Impact Initiative. This excellent resource is still available, still relevant and still possible. Tying this into the questions that will no doubt come up through the charities taxation proposal. What is a business? What is a good business? Why is a not-for-profit making profits? What are profits? And so on…
These are times of assaults on democracy, intellectual rights, creative expression, free speech, diversity, inclusion and much more.
